Philips Air Purifier (Model #AC4012/10) Review: Philips AC4012 is a smaller and slightly cheaper version of the elder brother Philips AC4014. We have got our hands on the air purifier AC4012/10 from Philips and here’s whats on offer.

PhilipsAC4012-5Design: Philips AC4012 looks identical to its elder brother Philips AC4014 with all the design elements including the round corners, digital eye and other visual features. The device is a lot slimmer measuring 343X198X520 mm (W-D-H) and weighs lighter at 5.4 kg. This makes it a lot flexible to move the air purifier around different rooms of your house by holding the hand grip behind. I also like the white color for its elegant look and the round corners elevate the visual appeal of the product. Philips AC4012 is offered only in white color, this is most probably due the ABS plastic construction material.

Technology: Philips air purifier AC4012 is equipped with HEPA air filter, the mystery word HEPA which stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air. Glass fibers are used to make HEPA filters and their unique configuration makes sure that large contaminants such as mold, dust and allergens are captured. HEPA filters can collect 99.9% of airborne impurities that are larger than 0.3 microns diameter. It is important to know that HEPA filters do not deal with nasty smells or odors. Anyways, back to Philips AC4012, the device is equipped 3 stage air purification system, a pre filter, an active carbon filter and a HEPA filter. The pre filter helps to filter larger airborne impurities, the carbon filter to remove odors or gases and the HEPA to remove PM2.5 (Particles less than or equal to 10 micrometers in diameter, in simple terms, these are particles less than the width of human hair)

Sleep mode operates the device very quietly in dimmed lights. The healthy air protect alert lets you know when it is time to replace the filter with a timely warning.

  • Air Quality Sensor

The device has got an excellent sensor to constantly measure and control indoor air quality

  • Sleep Mode

Sleep mode operation is excellent with bare minimum noise and I like the dimmed feature of the lights too.

  • Alerts

Alerts are based on the quality of the filter and not time phased.

  • Healthy Air Protect

The healthy air protect alert lets you know promptly when it is time to replace the filter.

  • Light and Portable

The air purifier is light and portable to be carried to different rooms

  • Noisy

The device gets noisy at high fan speed levels

  • Child Lock

Sad to see that the device doesn’t have child lock feature

  • Timer Mode

Timer options with user defined set of hours would have been helpful.

Performance: Philips air purifier AC4012 CADR test results are impressive with numbers of 160 m3/h for cigarette smoke, which means the device will reduce particle levels to the same concentration as would be achieved by 160 cubic meters or 104 cubic feet of 100% clean air per minute. The device also holds impressive test results of over 99% on purifying PM2.5 articles. In auto fan speed mode, the unit is silent at sound levels of 34dB, however, it gets a little noisy over 54dB at higher fan speeds. Customers have noticed inconsistent operation of the device is different cities, this is not at fault with the air purifier but due to climatic conditions. Weather in Mumbai is humid when compared to Delhi, humid weather causes moisture on the sensors PhilipsAC4012-3making it inconsistent by indicating poor air quality even though the air quality is actually good. Constant cleaning of moisture with a dry cloth is required for the device to show accurate results.

Maintenance: Philips recommends periodic cleaning of the pre-filter when the device displays ‘FO’ on the screen, there isn’t a predefined interval as the filter life depends on the air quality. HEPA filters will need to be replaced on the end of its lifetime and the air purifier will stop functioning if the filters are not replaced in 14 days. The pre filter costs approximately Rs. 1000 + and the HEPA and carbon filters around Rs. 2495 each. Air purifier AC4012 is delivered with a 2 year service guarantee for any faulty parts.

Conclusion: Philips air purifier AC4012 is a great all round device with good features, excellent value, great filters and inexpensive asking price. The device is a smaller version of Philips AC4014 with identical features. If you are check-price-on-amazon-buttonlooking for a mid range portable air purifier with advanced technology and filters that suits your bedroom, Philips air purifier AC4012 will be the perfect choice for its good features and with its affordable price tag backed by brand Philips. AC4012 is retailing at Rs 19,995.00 and is available on Amazon at Rs 15,995.00.
