Philips Air Cleaner (Model #AC3256/20) Review: Philips air cleaner AC3256 undoubtedly has the largest CADR (Clean Air Delivery Rate) at 367 m3 per hour and is clearly on the top of our recommendation list. Let us cut through all the features and technical specification and get to the point.
Design: Philips AC3256 looks tall and handsome with clean finishes. Unlike other Philips models, AC3256 is built with high grade plastic with round corners and the pure white color gives an elegant look. The device measuring 47.4 x 34 x 79.8 cm does look huge, this is justified with an astonishing CADR of 367 m3/h, the handle is well blended to the design and makes it easy to carry between rooms.
Philips AC3256 does not go unnoticeable in any room for its size, however, it really does not take up much footprint or real estate, thanks to its futuristic design. The control panel located on top of the device is neatly laid out and is very easy to read and use. However, the black finish of the panel is prone to attract dust and is super sensitive, even a gentle wipe with a cloth will beep the device.
Technology: Philips air purifier AC3256 is equipped with a pre filter, activated carbon filter and the HEPA air filter, the mystery word HEPA which stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air. Glass fibers are used to make HEPA filters and their unique configuration makes sure that large contaminants such as mold, dust and allergens are captured. HEPA filters can collect 99.9% of airborne impurities that are larger than 0.3 microns diameter. It is important to know that HEPA filters do not deal with nasty smells or odors. Anyways, back to Philips AC3256, the device is equipped 3 stage air purification system, a pre filter, an active carbon filter and a HEPA filter. The pre filter helps to filter larger airborne impurities, the carbon filter to remove odors or gases and the extra NanoProtect HEPA to remove PM2.5 (Particles less than or equal to 10 micrometers in diameter, in simple terms, these are particles less than the width of human hair)
The filters are easy to clean and replace, I like the special allergen mode designed to effectively remove airborne indoor allergens, this is useful for people with asthma.
Superior purification applied to 95m2

Effective area: 31-95 m2
Sound level: 32.5 – 63.8dB
Filters out PM2.5 – >99% 1 H
CADR- 367 m3/h
Filters out bacteria- 99.99% (1h)

Fan speeds- Silent, 1, 2, 3 & turbo
Performance: Hands down, Philips AC3256 is one of the best air cleaners with the highest Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) when compared to other devices in the market, at 367 m3/h, this certainly wins our vote. The device can cover over 1000 sq.ft. in air purification, switch on the device in turbo mode and I suggest to close the windows & doors and leave the room for the device to clean up the air in less than an hour.
The extra thick Nano Protect HEPA filter helps in super purification of airborne particles which are smaller than 0.02 um. Professional grade AeraSense sensing technology is astonishingly accurate to monitor air quality levels in real time and this sensor also predicts the lifetime of the air filters. The carbon filter assures protection from harmful gases and eliminates bad odor. The night mode is extremely silent and the lights on the device are automatically turned off for better sleep.
Customers have noticed inconsistent operation of the device is different cities, this is not at fault with the air purifier but due to climatic conditions. Weather in Mumbai is humid when compared to Delhi, humid weather causes moisture on the sensors making it inconsistent by indicating poor air quality even though the air quality is actually good. Constant cleaning of moisture with a dry cloth is required for the device to show accurate results.
Maintenance: Philips recommends periodic cleaning of the air sensors and filters, the device indicates FO on the screen that states the pre-filter needs to be cleaned under tap water, there isn’t a predefined interval as the filter life depends on the air quality. HEPA filters will need to be replaced on the end of its lifetime and the air purifier will stop functioning if the filters are not replaced in 14 days. The carbon filter costs approximately Rs. 3395 + and the HEPA filter around Rs. 3395. Air purifier AC3256 is delivered with a 2 year service guarantee for any faulty parts.
Conclusion: Hands down, Philips air cleaner AC3256 is one of the best air purifiers with the highest CADR and great technology backed by nice features. An in-built humidifier in the device would have been great. The filters have a great life span and they are expensive to be replaced. However, if you are looking for a good air purifier for a large house (3 bedroom), Philips air cleaner AC3256 can be an ideal choice for its great technology, impressive CADR and with its excellent value for money backed by brand Philips.
