Honeywell Air Touch I8 In-depth Review: Honeywell Air Touch I8 air purifier is a smaller and feature rich version of its sibling Honeywell Air Touch. Let’s cut through the features and specs to see what Honeywell Air Touch I8 has on the cards.

Design: Honeywell Air Touch I8 is a tall and handsome air purifier with excellent finishes, the moulded design ensures there are no sharp edges. The 6.2 kg device can be easily moved around with the anti-slip handle located at the back. Air touch I8 is offered in classic white and champagne gold colors, the colors look really rich, thanks to the UV coating on the device, I personally like the classic white color (usually more expensive). The wedge at the bottom is thoughtfully designed for you to wrap around the wire to prevent any clutter, even when the device is plugged in.

LED indicators, air outlet and the touch control panel are ergonomically located on top of the device, I really could not understand on why Honeywell chose to have the air quality indicators on top of the device as it is not easily visible if you are sitting at a distance from the air purifier. Could it be to have a clutter free design?. Installation of filters are really easy, thanks to its draw-type rear door to place the filters. The new DIY (Do it Yourself) is creeping in fast for a good reason, I could easily remove the door to wash the pre-filter, this ensures you don’t have to pay for any technicians to install air filters. The control panel located on top of the device is neatly laid out without any bumpy buttons and is very easy to read and use. The tri-color LED air quality indicator is a new feature on I8 model of Honeywell air purifiers, the real time meter is handy to know the current air quality of your room. I’m glad to see the child lock feature on the I8 air purifier, which was missing on the other Honeywell air purifiers.

Technology: Honeywell Air Touch I8 is equipped with a pre filter, Honeywell patented HiSiv filter and the HEPA air filter, the mystery word HEPA which stands for High Efficiency Particulate Air. Glass fibers are used to make HEPA filters and their unique configuration makes sure that large contaminants such as mold, dust and allergens are captured. HEPA filters can collect 99.9% of airborne impurities that are larger than 0.3 microns diameter. It is important to know that HEPA filters do not deal with nasty smells or odors. Honeywell Air Touch is equipped 3 stage air purification system, a pre filter, a HEPA filter and a HiSiv filter which is basically a carbon filter. The pre filter helps to filter larger airborne impurities and improves the life of HEPA filter, the carbon filter to remove odors or gases and the HEPA to remove PM2.5 (Particles less than or equal to 10 micrometers in diameter, in simple terms, these are particles less than the width of human hair).

The touch control panel responsiveness is really impressive, to increase the fan speed, you just need to swipe your finger across, similar to your smartphone. I also like the 3 exclusive indicators for each filter so that you exactly know which filter to replace. In most cases, the life of HEPA and Carbon end at the same time. The large air suction channel on the side ensures optimum air suction and high efficiency in the operating environment. Sensors in the air purifier cuts off the power if the device falls flat, this is a nice feature if you have pets at home. Honeywell Air Touch is an ozone free device, ozone gases are harmful to health only while you inhale.

Performance: Honeywell Air Touch I8 air purifier has an impressive Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) of 300 m3/h and covers over 380 sq.ft., the air purifier is ideal for large living rooms, bedrooms or even a studio apartment. The auto mode is handy as the air purifier takes control of itself, calibrates the air quality around you and adjust the fan speed accordingly. The night mode operation is very silent and hardly any noise is  noticeable given the size of the air purifier. The noise levels get louder at higher fan speeds, this is expected with a CADR of 300 m3/h. The air purifier is really powerful at its highest speeds and it can clean up a large 400 sq.ft area within 15 minutes, I would recommend to close the windows while the air purifier is powered on or you may also close the door if the device is powered on in any of your bedrooms, this ensures air is cleaned faster and improves the filter life too.

Customers have noticed inconsistent operation of the device is different cities, this is not at fault with the air purifier but due to climatic conditions. Weather in Mumbai is humid when compared to Delhi, humid weather causes moisture on the sensors making it inconsistent by indicating poor air quality even though the air quality is actually good. Constant cleaning of moisture with a dry cloth is required for the device to show accurate results.

Maintenance: Honeywell claims the filter life of 3000 hours, which can last approximately 10 months on regular usage, this can vary depending on the air quality around you too. HEPA filters will need to be replaced on the end of its lifetime and the air purifier will stop functioning if the filters are not replaced in 14 days. The HiSiv Carbon filter costs approximately ₹  2995 + and the HEPA filter around ₹ 3595. Air purifier is delivered with a 1 year service guarantee for any faulty parts.

Conclusion: Honeywell Air Touch I8 is a thoughtfully designed, well built air purifier with improved features, excellent specifications and great technology. Honeywell may have learnt its lessons in a hard way, which is really good. The initial set of Honeywell Air Touch air purifiers were priced over ₹ 35,000 and were later brought down below ₹ 25,000 this year, which is a sweet spot for customers looking for good air purifiers. Honeywell Air Touch I8 too has got its pricing right with online offers priced below ₹ 20,000. Intuitive features, excellent specifications, long-life filters, great technology, portability and the DIY (do it yourself without technicians) option makes Honeywell Air Touch I8 one of the best air purifiers on the market.
